ACT Math 16–22 band
Building Pre-Algebra and Elementary Algebra fluency.
What's actually holding you back here
In the 16–22 ACT math band, missed points are concentrated in the first 30 questions of the section — items that aren't conceptually hard but require fluent arithmetic and basic algebra. The back half of the section is essentially out of reach right now and shouldn't be the focus.
The three highest-leverage topics for this band
- Pre-Algebra — Largest content category and where almost all your missed points live.
- Elementary Algebra — Linear equations and substitution are the next most-tested items.
- Plane Geometry — Triangle and area items at easy difficulty are within reach with formula memorization.
The plan
Three-week plan: one week each on Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, and Plane Geometry foundations. Drill the easy items in each category until you can clear them at 90% accuracy in under 40 seconds per item. Take a timed practice test at the end of week 3.
What success looks like
Success looks like a 22 on the next practice test. From there, the 22–26 plan takes over.
What to skip
Skip everything in trigonometry, conics, and the back half of Intermediate Algebra. Those points are not yours to win right now.
